Kerry Ware

I have been painting on plaster for over 30 years. I am a formalist because most of my inspiration and motivation for making art comes from my materials.

The plaster surface allows me to treat the painting like an object. Razor blades and sand paper become my tools, the inclusion of wooden dowels into the panel punctuate the field. A larger scale enables me to affect the wall, drilling and rubbing and activating the surface without limitation. Intuitive gestures parallel music in an effort to create something that exists outside explanation.
